Öl auf Malpappe. Werbeentwurf. U.li. signiert "Beutner". U.re. auf einem klebemontierten Pappstreifen betitelt. Verso wohl nochmals signiert "Johannes Beutner" und von fremder Hand alt bezeichnet "Ruine Drachenfels". In einem goldfarbenen Rahmen. "Rotax", abgeleitet von "rotanda axis", war eine Freilaufnabe für Fahrräder, die ab 1903 in der Firma Friedrich-Theodor Gottschalks in Dresden hergestellt wurde. Dessen Sohn Richard Gottschalk war von 1921 bis 1931 im Unternehmen seines ... Vaters tätig und seit 1922 ein Freund und Förderer Johannes Beutners. Letzterer, selbst begeisterter Radfahrer, hielt sogar ein Patent an einem neuen Bauteil für den Rotax-Freilauf. Für die Firma Rotax fertigte Beutner eine Reihe von Postkarten und Werbematerialien, die 1930 datieren. Nachdem sich Richard Gottschalk 1931 selbstständig gemacht hatte, vertrieb er die verbesserte Nabe "Centrix". 1933 ließ er sich von Beutner porträtieren (Vgl. Schmidt Kunstauktionen Dresden, 85. Kunstauktion, Los 95). 1936 stellte er den Maler als Reise-Werbefachmann für den süddeutschen Raum an, wofür dieser einen Opel P4 als Dienstwagen erhielt. 1938 nutzten Gottschalk und Beutner den Opel P4 und die Tarnung als Reisevertreter, um einen jüdischen Justitiar der Firma und dessen Familie zur Flucht in die Niederlande zu verhelfen.
