Meijer schreibt zu dem Gemälde: "This still life, in my opinion, is a characteristic work of the anonymous artist(s) for the time being named Pseudo-Roestraten (...) The name is due to some similarities with the work of Pieter Gz. van Roestraten (and numerous incorrect attributions to that artist) and the work is generally considered as Dutch, but this is probably not the case. As many examples originate from old English collection, the artist may well have worked in England, at least for some time. He (or they) must have been active during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries."
